Ubuntu 8.04.1 : Xen 3.2 package broken ?

I’m trying to install xen on Ubuntu 8.04.1 and here is what I get :

spaghetti% sudo apt-get install ubuntu-xen-server
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
ubuntu-xen-server: Depends: python-xen-3.2 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: xen-utils-3.2 but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
spaghetti%

I’ve tried to follow the package dependencies but without success. As for now I’m growing tired of Ubuntu and I’m considering moving away to a more robust distribution … I’d be glad to hear your point of view about that too.

  1. Hi Stephane,

Sounds weird to me. I have setup several Xen server (i386 and AMD64) without any issues (at least since 8.04.1, there were some network issues in 8.04 release). Could you paste your sources.list somewhere?
I do not want to troll here, but Ubuntu is not the worst server platform (but yes, I’m biased ;)).

  2. Hello Lionel,

    Thanks for passing by !

I have to admit that I gave up a bit quickly on that one … (I googled around to find ou that that I was not the only one facing this problem, see bug id 222194).

Considering the time I’ve spend trying to fix my sound problem (bug id 209342), I decided that I would better invest my time in trying a different distro (this is actually gentoo).

But maybe that’s just me being unlucky 🙂

I’m not trolling here neither 🙂 I’ve used Ubuntu as my desktop distro in the past year and besides those 2 glitches everything was bliss.

As for the souces.list, I can’t paste it, I nuked my installation, sorry !

    Stéphane
